Eleanor C. "Ellie" Brown, 76, of Pocopson Home, died peacefully Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Pocopson Home.
Born in Kobe, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Robert C. and Grace Eleanor Dickinson Brown.
In 1938, she moved to the U.S. and grew up in Parkersville and Kennett Square.
Ellie was a 1953 graduate of Kennett High School. She attended Linden Hall College, Lititz.
Ellie moved to Florida with her family in 1962, where she remained in the St. Petersburg area for more than 40 years, until her return to Chester County in July 2006.
She worked in food service and retired from Ted Peters in Pasadena, Fla.
She was a lifelong Baptist and collector of Bibles.
Ellie enjoyed playing bingo, listening to music and studying the Bible. She loved to eat, laugh and socialize with others.
In her younger years, she played the piano and danced in local recitals.
Ellie found contentment and happiness in her later years despite a lifelong battle from the effects of a chronic disorder.
She is survived by her loving sisters, Elizabeth Jane Brown of Bradenton, Fla., and Berta Brown Rains of Coatesville; nephew, Kenneth "Steve" Purcell and his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Brodie, Emily and Bailey, all of Madiera Beach, Fla.; niece, Manon Veilleux of Portland, Ore.; cousins, Macfarland Wood and Lindsay Brown of Charlotte, S.C., Katherine Tandy Brown of Beaufort, S.C., and Elizabeth Wood Bowers of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her older sister, Madeline Brown Veilleux.
A celebration of Ellie's life will be held on Friday, June 25, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Activities Room on Jones 3 at Pocopson Home.
Ellie's family is grateful for the care and love provided to her by the staff of Pocopson Home and Neighborhood Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Ellie's honor may be made to Cornerstone Clubhouse, 224 Hall St., Phoenixville, PA 19460; or to Pocopson Home Patient Fund, 1695 Lenape Way, West Chester, PA 19382.
